WASHINGTON CHILD
Bulletin # WA139
Marissa is a bright, outgoing and talkative, twelve-year-old girl, with a pleasant disposition, who enjoys gymnastics and hopes to join the Girl Scouts, someday. She loves anything “girlie,” and her bedroom is pink with a “Princess” motif. Marissa is an adaptable child, who identifies as bi-racial and is comfortable with Caucasian and African/ American cultures.
Marissa recognizes her need for rules and clear expectations but she’d like an adoptive family who isn’t too strict and can be flexible, patient and fun. She would like a family with a mom and a dad, but is open to having just a mom. She likes birds and animals and hopes her new family will share her interests. Marissa would do best in a family where she is the youngest or only child, and with parents who have experience raising challenging teens.
Marissa can be funny and socially engaging, but she needs a parent who is calm and consistent, and not emotionally responsive, as she is capable of pushing limits to the point of tantruming. A family who can patiently offer frequent cues for her to complete tasks and reward positive behavior will do well with Marissa.
This charming little girl has made great strides in developing strategies to resolve problems and is showing increasing respect toward others. She is currently earning A’s and B’s in school and plans to be a lawyer, when she grows up. She’d like a family who would also help her maintain contact with her biological sister, who lives in Washington State. Most of all, Marissa want a fun, active, patient and committed family to call her own.
