Bulletin #13004

Thomas, who goes by the name “Drew,” is a fun-loving 13 year old boy who likes to both play and watch sports. He likes to play football, ride his bike and skateboard, and shoot hoops. His favorite football team is the OSU Beavers. He is an affectionate boy and is especially sweet with younger children. His enthusiasm and ability to be “in the moment” makes him a lot of fun to be with. He is good with animals and has had pets including dogs, cats, and a pet rat. Like most kids, he does best if he gets time to be physically active every day.
Little is known about Drew’s birth parents as he was adopted privately at age 10 months. Drew entered foster care in 2005, and has had several placements. He has been in his current foster home for over a year and he is attached to his foster family and them to him. Sometimes, Drew gets frustrated and will cry and isolate. Drew has difficulty planning very far into the future and needs repetition to learn new coping skills. Drew participates in therapy and will likely need to continue with therapy in the future, especially skill building. Despite his difficult history, Drew remains open-hearted, good-natured and resilient. He very much wants to belong to a family.
Drew has ongoing occasional contact with an uncle and aunt and he would like to maintain that contact in the future, but he does not have any contact with other members of his prior adoptive family. Drew would do best with parent(s) who will join him in his fun-loving ways, enjoy playing with children and introducing them to new adventures. Drew would not mind being an only child; however he does get along well with young children and enjoys playing the part of “big brother.” Drew would also do well in a home where there are mature children who are several years older than he is.
Drew needs experienced parent(s) who can match his passion for life, and have some understanding of children who struggle with impulsivity. Drew needs to feel accepted just as he is, while at the same time encouraged to reach his full potential. He needs parents who are consistent and can provide structure (not rigid), yet are nurturing and loving. Parents who demonstrate maturity, a calm manner plus sense of humor, and who can patiently give Drew the security and stability he needs, will be rewarded with a loyal, loving son.
