Bulletin #12860

Jason & Jacob are very likable identical twins who were born prematurely and are smaller and appear younger than other 9 ½ year-old children. The boys share good looks, imagination, charming ways and winning smiles. They are bonded to one another and have relied on each other through 7 placements, including 2(brief) adoptive placements in 2008/2009.

Jason, who is slightly older than Jacob is clearly the leader. He is willing to offer help to anyone, is more in tune with his surroundings, and better able to comprehend and emotionally process information, but he can be more manipulative and cooler than Jacob. Jacob is easily influenced by others (particularly Jason), but he loves to cuddle, and is very sweet and nurturing with smaller children. Jacob has more difficulty understanding and processing information and emotions, but with permanency, time and continued support, his abilities are likely to improve significantly.

Like most nine-year-olds, Jason & Jacob love to run and play outdoors, build with Legos and Lincoln logs, go camping and fishing, and watch movies. They don’t watch much TV, and after a long and active day, they like to have a story read to them, before being tucked in for the night. Due to their shared experiences and bond, the boys appear to have similar needs, such as reassurance that they won’t be left alone and that they are wanted. They also share a level of activity and anxiety that requires a highly structured (and active) home, with clear and specific expectations and consistent consequences, along with on-going medication management and periodic counseling. Advocacy for continued service is expected after adoption, however, permanency and stability may reduce the need for services in the future.

Both boys are friendly, fun-loving, silly and creative, but because of their understandable hesitancy to trust adults, they can appear shy and stand-offish to strangers. They are very inventive during play and can entertain themselves and each other, but they need lots of space and clear rules. They have been dependent upon each other for so long, it sometimes appears as if they think they are all each other needs, but they have been able to open up more and begin to trust their care providers, and though apprehensive, they are willing to try adoption again. The boys need experienced parents, who won’t give up on them and will continue the work of helping them heal through loving advocacy and support. With time and attention to their needs, Jason & Jacob will enrich any active family.
