Melissa is a lovely and vibrant teenage girl with long brown hair and big brown eyes. She loves to flash her bright smile now that her braces have been removed. Melissa is a typical teenage girl, getting silly and giggly when excited. She loves going shopping, talking on the phone, movies and roller skating. She is very helpful around the house, especially in the kitchen where she loves to make desserts.

Melissa would love to be with a family that loves pets, especially dogs. She enjoys interacting with animals, including horses and would appreciate the opportunity to have animals as a part of her life. She is an avid reader, currently favoring mysteries.

Although she is not currently involved with a church, she has really enjoyed being a part of church youth groups in the past. In a previous placement, there was a church literally at the end of the long driveway to her foster home, where she often attended church activities on her own.

Melissa has a communication disorder that has impacted her social development. As she is a resilient and hard-working girl, she is working with her foster mom and mentor to build age-appropriate social skills. Her resilience and appreciation make her a great addition to the right family. Melissa will thrive in an environment in which her interests and goals are supported and encouraged. She would do well with a couple or single mom in an environment where she would be the only child or the youngest of older teenage children. An adoptive parent(s) with both energy and time to devote to Melissa will be the key to her success. Melissa hopes to be able to continue having contact with her paternal grandparents, as well as her infant sister.
