We have youth both male and female that need a mentor like you, can you be a positive role model in a child’s life? Do you have just 2 hours a week to make a difference for a child? Can you listen and be a friend? Many of the children we serve do not have an adult they feel safe with. You do not have to have a degree, or any special talents, you can change one life with just a little effort. Contact our office for more information about being a mentor for a child in foster care. We have many young boys who need MALE MENTORS, why not you?

PROGRAM INFORMATION

A Family for Every Child mentor program is designed for youth who are living in foster care. Youth are matched with an adult volunteer mentor who has similar interests who can spend time together forming a friendship. We ask that the mentor spend approximately 10 hours a month together doing things like: visiting parks, sports activities, watching a movie, doing homework, and talking about what life has to offer the child. These are just examples; many more options available. The mentor and the mentee will decide what activities to do together to build a lasting bond. The mentoring program is designed to bring stable, long-term relational support to foster youth. Mentoring relationships can provide stable emotional support, increase self sufficiency and expose foster youth to new cultures and experiences, thus broadening their vision of "what could be" in their lives.

Program Goals:

  • Spend time together doing fun activities / similar interests
  • Increase the number of foster youth who complete high school, enroll in post-secondary school, and find stable employment and housing.
  • Educate the mentor on all the options available to the foster youth.
  • Educate the foster youth, through the mentor, about their options in education, housing and employment.
  • Help the foster youth and the mentor develop a strong, long term connection.
  • Teach independent living / life skills needed for a successful future in adulthood.
