Clackamas Trainings

Foster/Adopt/Relative Pre-service Foundations Training Schedule for

September 2008 thru December 2009

This eight session, three hour, training series, is a mandatory part of the of the home study process for those interested in fostering, adopting, or parenting relatives. These classes will give you needed tools to parent and mentor, children and families in the care of DHS Child Welfare. Pre-registration is required. If you have questions or need further information, please contact your certifier or Julia Buzzard at (503) 731-4003 julia.buzzard@state.or.us .

Orientation class is the first step to becoming a resource family for children in DHS Custody.  Everyone
must complete an “Orientation” class prior to attending the remaining seven “Foundation” classes.   

*If you are a relative or child specific provider, who has completed the emergency certification process,
 you are required to attend Orientation class within 30 days of a child being placed in your home.

Attend Orientation Training

  • An introduction to Foundation Training and Child Welfare.
  • Please refer to the attached schedule for dates and times.

* A Spanish speaking interpreter will be provided at one Orientation each month.  Please see the attached schedule

You do not need to pre-register for this class. 

 

 

 

Complete Foundation Training

  • Foundation Training consists of a series of 7 classes. 
  • You will be given the option of completing the series in either 7 consecutive weeks or attending two classes a week and completing your training in four weeks.
  • You will be provided the Foundation class schedule at your Orientation Training.

*A Spanish speaking interpreter will be provided at selected series, please indicate this need at your Orientation Training.  
 

You do not need to pre-register for his class,

You may begin the class at any point in the series, with the exception of class 5. 

Please note if our training room is at maximum capacity, you may be asked to wait a week or two to begin classes.  

 

Application Packets

  • You will be provided an application packet at your first Foundation class. 
  • You may turn in your packet after you have completed 6 of the 8 required classes
  • You will turn your application packet into the class trainer.  (If you are a relative or child-specific certified family already caring for a child this step does to apply to you).

Your application packet will be sent to the appropriate branch for assignment. You should be contacted within 30 days by an adoption worker or a certifier.

Wallowa County Trainings

Wallowa Co is starting their 8 week training session on 10.14.08 and will end 12.16.08.
Classes are on Tuesdays from 6:00pm-9:00pm at the Prairie Creek Center in Enterprise.
 
Coos County

Foundations in Foster Care and Adoption Training
Attendance at all five sessions is required in order to complete this training requirement

January 31, 2009 9-4 pm February 3, 2009 6-9 pm  

Foundations training is required for all foster care and adoption applicants as well as relatives or family friends who have been certified on an emergency basis and have not attended the training.

Adoption applicants, please contact Kevin Stuntzner-Gibson at 541-756-5500 ext. 238 to confirm you will be attending.

For planning purposes, lunch on January 24 with be on your own but, lunch on January 31 will be a potluck and Tuesday night, February 3, experienced foster and adoptive families will be joining us for pizza and panel discussion.

Adoption applicants should speak with your adoption worker about training requirements other than Foundations.

-- Eugene, Ore. -- The process of adopting a child can take more than a year, but adoptive parents say it's worth the effort.

ORPARC trainings below are free-of-charge to DHS/state adoptive, foster and assisted guardianship families, and DHS/SNAC adoption professionals. Others may attend trainings for minimal charge and/or on a space available basis. Reimbursement for childcare & travel expense are offered to ORPARC eligible families as funds allow; please request childcare and travel reimbursement upon registration. Trainings are held in accessible locations. Auxiliary aids & alternative forms of written materials are available to persons with disabilities. Foreign language interpretation is available upon request. Request these services 2 weeks in advance.

This is a mandatory class for foster parents who want to enter the Tier program or to care for foster children 3 years and younger. This class will now be taught as the 9th Week of Foundations on an ongoing basis.
