How We Got Started


IT ALL BEGAN NOT THAT LONG AGO.......

A Family For Every Child, a non profit organization, began with Christy Obie-Barrett, the mother of 12 children, 9 of which are adopted. Christy wanted to make a difference in the lives of more children and found a way through non profits. Thus, in January of 2006, AFFEC got incorporated as a not for profit business in Oregon. During the next six months, AFFEC formed and developed into an organization focused on finding permanent loving homes for Oregon's waiting children. We intend to develop programs that assist special needs/hard to place foster children in finding their own "Forever Families."

In April of 06, Christy's friend, Andrea, joined in her mission to make a difference in the lives of these children. Since that time the two have been working on several programs to assist different groups of special needs kids. The first of the programs, sponsored by A Family for Every Child, is the Heart Gallery of Lane County. The Heart Gallery opened in November 2006 at the 5th Street Public Market. Our goals as a non profit include building bridges and partnerships with other organizations and non profits, like the Heart Gallery and 5th Street Market. We believe we are stronger when we stand together.
